Keep the CLI agent you already use and change only the terminal: Warp runs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI beside its own agent.
“[Warp](https://www.warp.dev) is an agentic development environment, born out of the terminal. Use Warp's built-in coding agent, or bring your own CLI agent (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, and others).”

What we know about Claude Code
Claude Code runs only Anthropic models: every alias — default, best, fable, sonnet, opus, haiku and opusplan — resolves to a Claude model, and changing the base URL moves where the request goes without changing which model answers it.
“ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL changes where requests are sent, not which model answers them.”
Plan a change with Opus and execute it with Sonnet inside one session, by setting the model to `opusplan`.
“Special mode that uses opus during plan mode, then switches to sonnet for execution”
Run the agent on infrastructure your employer already approved: the model setting accepts an Amazon Bedrock inference profile ARN, a Microsoft Foundry deployment name, or a Google Cloud Agent Platform version name.
“Amazon Bedrock: an inference profile ARN”
Work one long task without losing history: `sonnet[1m]` gives a 1 million token context window, and auto-compaction runs below it.
“Uses Sonnet with a 1 million token context window for long sessions”
You cannot audit, fork or patch the agent: the repository publishes the changelog, plugins and examples, not the CLI source, under an all-rights-reserved licence. GitHub Copilot CLI is the only other tool in this set that does the same.
“© Anthropic PBC. All rights reserved. Use is subject to Anthropic's [Commercial Terms of Service](https://www.anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms).”
Subscribers report the plan limit arriving far earlier than the plan implies: the repository's most-commented open issue carries 1,487 comments and 724 reactions and has stayed open since 2026-01-03.
“[BUG] Instantly hitting usage limits with Max subscription”
On API-key billing the cost is per token, and Anthropic's own enterprise figure is $150-250 per developer per month.
“Across enterprise deployments, the average cost is around $13 per developer per active day and $150-250 per developer per month, with costs remaining below $30 per active day for 90% of users.”
A developer who must run a local or self-hosted model should choose goose or Crush; both accept an Ollama endpoint.
“Local model runner supporting Qwen, Llama, DeepSeek, and other open-source models.”
What Claude Code costs
Claude Pro costs $17 per month on the annual plan, $200 billed up front, or $20 per month billed monthly; Max starts at $100 per month.
“Per month with annual subscription discount ($200 billed up front). $20 if billed monthly.”
Pro and Max subscribers do not pay per token for Claude Code; the usage sits inside the subscription.
“Claude Max and Pro subscribers have usage included in their subscription, so the session cost figure isn’t relevant for billing purposes.”
What we know about Warp
Warp replaces the terminal itself rather than running inside one, and ships that client as open source — AGPL v3, with the `warpui_core` and `warpui` crates under MIT.
“Warp's UI framework (the `warpui_core` and `warpui` crates) are licensed under the [MIT license](LICENSE-MIT). · The rest of the code in this repository is licensed under the [AGPL v3](LICENSE-AGPL).”
Budget one developer's agent spend to a flat $20 a month: the Build plan includes 1,500 credits, which Warp prices at $20 of agent usage at API rates.
“1,500 credits ($20 of included agent usage at API rates)”
Roll out to a team of up to 25 with SAML single sign-on and admin data controls, at $50 per user per month.
“For teams scaling AI-powered development (up to 25 seats)”
On the free plan you cannot switch telemetry off and keep the AI; only paid plans can opt out and still use it.
“Telemetry must be enabled to use AI features on the Free plan, while paid plans can opt out at any time and continue using Warp, including AI.”
Warp still will not talk to a local model: the request to support Ollama has been open since 2024-02-26 and carries 1,427 reactions, the most of any issue across these twelve tools.
“Make Warp work with Local Language Models (like Ollama models)”
It is heavy for a terminal you leave open: the memory-usage issue has been open since 2023-02-05 with 126 comments.
“High Memory Usage”
A developer who wants a small binary and a local model should pick Crush or goose; Warp is a full desktop terminal with a cloud account behind it.
“A native desktop app for macOS, Linux, and Windows. A full CLI for terminal workflows. An API to embed it anywhere. Built in Rust for performance and portability.”
What Warp costs
Warp is $0 on Free, $20 per month on Build, $200 per month on Max and $50 per user per month on Business; annual billing takes Build to $18 and Max to $180.
“Start free and scale as your team grows. Simple, transparent pricing with no surprises.”
The Max plan includes 18,000 credits, 12 times the usage included with Build.
“18,000 credits (12× the included usage of Build)”
Questions people ask
- Are Claude Code and Warp still maintained?
- Claude Code committed to anthropics/claude-code (main) on 8 Oct 2026. Warp committed to warpdotdev/warp (master) on 8 Oct 2026. Both readings come from the default branch of each repository, on the date shown beside them.

- Is Claude Code or Warp open source?
- We have not read a licence for Claude Code. Warp's repository warpdotdev/warp reports the AGPL-3.0 licence. We read the licence GitHub reports for the repository, which is not the same question as whether the hosted product is free.
How we check this page
- Machine facts. Stars, contributors, the newest commit on the default branch, the licence GitHub reports and the latest stable release come from the GitHub API, and download counts from npm, PyPI, Homebrew and the VS Code Marketplace. Each value carries the day it was last confirmed, never the day this page was built. The line under each label is arithmetic on those two values.
- Judgments. Every claim about what a tool suits, what it is bad at and what it costs is quoted from a page we read, and that page is linked beside the claim. Where there is no link, we wrote no claim.
- Index status. Both Claude Code and Warp carry claims we read, quoted and linked. So this page is offered to search engines.
